Sultan Suleyman (R) reigned 1520-1566. He was known as the Magnificent and also the Lawgiver. He was a patron of the arts, beside being an established poet. He was the tenth Ottoman Sultan. He was a goldsmith, and wrote poems under the pseudonym Muhibbi.
These poems rhymed in the original.
–
O Suleiman; here’s your crown:
To be generous and kind hearted
Is the pageantry of the throne
If you want to see your subjects happy
Do not be arrogant, think that they may be
better than yourself.
We are all brothers; we must love each other
O Suleiman a true Moslem regards this solemn behest.
Act wisely, but do not remain unknown,
Shelter the good, and be severe to wrongdoers.
To be a tyrant like a Tartar Khan
Doesn’t befit a Sultan.
Staying silent against aggression
Is as good as taking part.
Do not hibernate; be awake on your throne
Our strong hands hold the fate of the World.
We have to fight to earn
The regard and affection of men.
–
I begin in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, and the Merciful
Secret or open, nothing hidden from You
Dear Lord! Heal my anguish-stricken heart
You’re the Wise One who knows a cure for all patience
Merciful Lord! Thanks to you
You made this slave of yours Moslem
Keep my faith till the last breath
Do not let damned Satan come near me
Dear Lord! For the sake of Mustafa, your Messenger
Grant us your bountiful paradise
Dear Lord! At the day of Judgement
Keep Muhibbi, the slave on your side.
–
Dear Lord! Shower me with your grace
Whether there is any remedy other than You I do not know.
Help me, forgive my sins,
Please, help me, forgive my sins.
–
O dear Lord, you’re the Padishah,
You’re worthy of it!
Every padishah takes refuge in you.
You humiliate the one you don’t like
and exalt the one you love.
Shahdom suits you.
You know each of your slave’s secrets.
If I’m a rebel, please don’t withhold your mercy, give us plenty.
No one can claim their innocence.
You’re the just and I live in your just land.
I’m the only passenger on a sorrowful road that leads to you.
Sometimes tears turn my face red
Because of the shame of my sins.
I’m like dawn full of stars,
The smoke of my burning heart veils my eyes.
This black face of mine is like the black ink of my letters.
My hope lies with no one but you
Forgive me, forgive your Selim!
One murid of Sheykh Maulana Nazim writes a refutation of Hisham Kabbani’s words
You can find the full refutation here:
http://defendingthetruth.wordpress.com/
If you are truly an Aalim, kindly respond to the following refutations. Since you like Arabic so much, let me borrow a phrase from Imam al-Ghazali and call this the Tahafut al-Kabbani.
(1) You said in your talk: “That’s why it is very important to know that a representative always has to keep the highest respect for his Sheykh to give a good reputation for his Sheykh through his actions. Not to give a bad reputation for his Sheykh through his bad actions!”
O Hisham Kabbani! Do you have a memory? Do you have a sense of history? Wallahi, there is not a single man who walks and breathes on the face of this earth who has done more damage, more disgrace, and more shamefulness to the name of Sultan al-Awliya than you. No Naqshbandi Haqqani can walk into any masjid in America because of you. No Naqshbandi Haqqani can show their face at ISNA Conference because of you. You are meeting with the biggest Sheytans, Dick Cheney and George Bush. Okay, even if you are saying that you have to meet them, you did not refute them! You did not rebuke them for killing Muslims in Afghanistan! You did not rebuke them for killing Muslims in Iraq! You just smile and take Happy Ramadan pictures with them. Now, in the U.K., you are making the Sufi Muslim Council which is stepping on the toes of the work that Muslims have done for decades in that country. In the Arab countries, people are taking you for a joke.
Seeing Sheykh Mevlana on a trip to Cyprus is a very blessed but also a very fleeting moment.
His sohbets (talks) are broadcast from his home into the Lefke Dergah on a projector screen. People who travel far and wide see Maulana very briefly. Mevlana also does not come from the house for prayer at the Dergah. To catch a glimpse of him one must wait by his home for some time, where he enters a car after Asr Namaz to be driven to some places in Cyprus. Between that moment of exiting the home and entering the car, one might be so fortunate to be able to see him and kiss his hand.
So one can imagine that is was highly unusual, and also a very blessed event, when Sheykh Mevlana came to Sheykh Abdul Kerim’s house in Cyprus to visit him.
There Mevlana officiated the opening of a dergah at this temporary location. Mevlana also gave of his own land to Sheykh Abdul Kerim to use for a permanent location.
Sheykh Abdul Kerim was a gracious host and showed Sheykh Mevlana the dergah and made him very comfortable. Sheykh Mevlana Nazim prayed two rakats immediately. Then Sheykh Abdul Kerim showed Sheykh Mevlana his Ziyarat (visitation) to Grandshaykhs in India, and events at the Osmanli Dergah in New York.
Sheykh Mevlana was also able to meet murids individually who were staying at the dergah, giving us all a rare opportunity to be in the presence of Sultan ul Awliya Sheykh Muhammad Nazim Adil al-Hakkani.

O Master of the Universe,
How sweet is your magnificence!
Your threshold is the Sacred Land,
Your face is the Quran!
We have understood the secret of your face,
That even Allah makes recitation of your face!
In the Universes, you are the highest after Allah,
Everything in this Universe is coming from you,
We read the Quran, the guide of our Belief,
The Quran reads you, O my Master!
O Seal of the Prophets,
You are the Sultan of the Messengers,
Your face is the most beautiful,
May the universes be sacrifice for you.
O Master of the beggars, protect us!
Be generous on us, O Sultan!
Take away the difficulty of our pains,
It is easy for you.
You are the groom of the Miraj,
You have reached to the Home of the Creator,
You are the Beloved of the Greatest One,
You are the guest of the Divine Throne.
How amazing is your threshold,
O Master of the Two Worlds,
Your presence, O Chosen One,
Is the Proof of Faith.
