The first thing Shaykh Effendi wanted to do upon arriving to the Prayer Vigil was to greet Clyde Bellecourt, a Native American activist who is 71 years old. His Ojibwe name is Nee-gon-we-way-we-dun which means “Thunder Before the Storm.

MashaAllah it was a very succesful event, with many Muslims and Non-Muslims attending to enjoy each others company by breaking our fast and sharing in prayer.

One of the great blessings of living at the Dergah is being able to know exactly where your food comes from. This week I host a BBQ at my home and invited the mureeds over. For that purpose I slaughtered a goat. Pictures of a Zabiha (warning: blood) are present after clicking the link. Shaykh Effendi says that performing Zabiha properly is very important, and in itself a cure for depression.
