Are C-Sections Overused? Rethinking Induced Labor
The rise in cesarean-section deliveries in recent years has been
characterized by some as a key indication of the overmedicalization of
childbirth. While the procedure undoubtedly saves lives and leads to
better health outcomes for mothers and infants who face problems during
pregnancy and labor, many experts say the procedure is being performed
too often, and in many cases for nonmedical reasons, putting healthy
women and babies at undue risk of complications of major surgery.

Ricki Lake has a good documentary on home births – at least that is what my wife tells me. It is interesting to note that America’s obgyn statistics are relatively poor for a “post-modernized” first world country!

BismillahirRahmanirRahim,
Most doctors don’t even know what Natural Birth looks like, they only know what is easy for them cut, operate and go. They don’t care if it is safe and healthy for the mother and the baby.
The good news is state of NY has recently passed a law (Midwifery Modernization Act http://freeourmidwives.org/) which allows midwives to practice independently, Alhamdulillah!
Al-hamdu-lillah!, Al-hamdu-lillah!.
Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim.
Assalamualaikum,
I am a Muslim homebirth midwife! Yes, I have been reading your blog all morning. If any of your women are seeking assistance with delivery, please be in touch. It would be an honor. I have three small boys and am flexible to travel anytime. I am very interested in a Sufi Community.
Jazak Allahu Khairan for sharing this. Babies are all too often rushed from their mothers wombs. The whisperings of shaytaan attempting to change Allah’s perfect creation. SubhanAllah, I have attended hundreds of gentle home deliveries, many well beyond even 42 weeks of gestation, as is common in normal healthy, unhindered pregnancies.
I wrote through your Yahoo group earlier. Insha’Allah, I would love to connect with your community, as I am all alone here in New Hampshire.
Wa salaam,
Khadijah
I keep track of this blog for the Catskills regional news site I run, WatershedPost.com.
To my amazement, I just noticed the recent comment by Khadijah Faulkner and recognized her name. She was in attendance at the home birth of my daughter Ruby in Boston a couple of years ago, assisting my primary midwife Tara Kenny. Ruby was born at home without complications at exactly 42 weeks, and Khadijah was fantastic and supportive, both during the birth and in the days following.
If any other midwives are reading this, I’m very interested in writing about homebirth and midwifery in rural upstate New York for our news site. Feel free to get in touch with us at editor@watershedpost.com.
