  1. It is of the nature of the Path — whether the Shadhili or the Noble Naqshbandi path — to let go off the things that are dear to our selfish desires. Of the most firmly held by this reprehensible and misguiding impulse is public recognition and maintaining a high reputation. So in the manner of my Darqawi predecessors, I place the misbaha around my neck, and admonish myself for using the weaknesses of others to succumb to partisan delinquency. I am unfit to be a murid of either path, and I hold both of them exalted above my own wretchedness. They are two streams from the waters of Paradise, and those who have bathed in their waters are to be held in awe and above contempt, for they have washed themselves in the noblest water, they have on honey-dew fed and have drunk the milk of Paradise. May any who read this now that I hold the Naqshbandi tariqa in honour, that I apologise for whatever I have said that injured another or unsettled his heart, and that I would properly belong to the most vile of all creation (those of kufr) except for the Mercy and Compassion of The Merciful & Compassionate. Ya Haqq!
