Salafi’s Never Have To Deal With:

After praying at a Muslim restaurant, being questioned and lectured at by the waiter about the dhikr you performed after salat. This continues for half an hour while you wait for friends to arrive.

  1. Very poor adab. I am sure the dhikr of shaytaan in the same establishment is easily accepted and his awliya welcomed.

  2. pathetic. If this is the state of the people of tassawuf that they would write things like this out of such sarcastic, spite, then we would all do well to cry for the loss of true spiritual cleanliness in this world.

Against the manners of the student of knowledge and of the murid.

On top of that – false. The salafis are not against Dhikr after Salah and believe in the duas that were said by the Prophet and in using them to draw closer to Allah and those duas are many. They might not use the same Dhikr as yourself – repeating the name “Allah” over and over again – but they do remember His Name.

If dhikr leads to arrogance and public proclamation to the world that you do it while another class of Muslims do not – I would question how much benefit my dhikr is giving me.

This post neither causes benefit nor prevents harm.

  3. as-salamu’alaikum Abdul Ahmed,

I’m sorry, where is the sarcasm or spite? It’s simply a fact. Maybe you needed additional information: This was Salat, then a short, quiet dhikr (LaillahaillAllah 3x), then using our tasbih for a quick silent recitation of Alhamdulillah, and then a group dua. All of which the Salafi’s do not perform, as we were reminded by our waiter.

And indeed, I hope it will bring benefit as it might remind others to prevent turning a pleasant night out into a confrontational experience.

  4. I would have loved to hear your narration of the night my brother.

But you and I both know that the salafis were mentioned for a reason.

And I see no goodness in that reason.

    wallahu alam

  5. I thought blogs were for personal rants ?

Yursil, please seek permission from your readers and potential readers before posting your thoughts next time.

  6. I expect better from students of tasawuf. Thats all. Of course he has the right to post what he wishes. I do not mean to take away from that. I just think it was mean-spirited in the way it mentioned our salafi brothers and unnecessary. Wallahu alam.

  7. as-salamu’alaikum,

I’m still quite confused and not certain what is mean spirited. I didn’t intend it that way. The brother was a Salafi, and Salafi’s don’t have to deal with this. Those of a traditionalist mindset do and did have to deal with this, this past Sunday, and that is a reality.

I’m sorry I don’t fit into your preconceived notions about students of Tassawuf. It may be a good time to reevaluate those notions and expectations.

    Biz Osmanliz!

  8. Pek Sanliyiz!

  9. Or in Arabic:

    Nahnu Uthmaniyun!
    Wa Hadha ‘Izzatuna

  10. What is so big deal if Sidi Yursil decided to tell his readers about a sad but true incident that took place with him? We all have been victims of such attacks by our fellow Salafi Brothers, and we all have shared those stories with our friends. So I don’t see why brothers like Abu Ahmed and others are getting uptight about…Plus he didn’t mention the name of the waiter as well…

  11. Khalid Abu Malik, Yusif, wa Tasneem

I wouldn’t listen to my brother Sharjeel, whom I haven’t seen for what seems like mostly many years. He whom decided to move as far west as possible, because Allah (subhanna wa ta’ala) destined me to go east. It’s not surprising I should find his type on a tasawuf website! (Next I’ll find out that Omar above, is Omar from Toronto).

  12. Br.Khaild do I know you? Perhaps you have me confused with some other Sharjeel. Let me know Insha’Allah!

    JAK

  13. Nevermind, I take my comment back, I know you Br.Khalid (Is this Bryan??) Wow, Subhan’Allah!! Good to see you on this blog…Akhi, how is your Father now? Please convey our regards to your Father and rest of the family…

  14. salaam,

How do you know that the salafis didn’t do zikr? Maybe they did it while they were walking back to the tables? Maybe they did it silently. As far as I know the zikr of Allah is to be done at all times, except when in the bathroom. Just because they weren’t seen raising their hands after prayer, doesn’t at all mean, that they didn’t do zikr of Allah.
