Thanks to the work of the Muslim Literary Society in organizing this publication and thanks to the spectacular translation capability of Shaykh Muhtar Holland, I am very pleased to present a 12 page sample of the forthcoming translation of the Ihya by Imam Ghazali (R).

Please keep in mind this a very rough draft and is still in need of further editing.

The project is also in need of funds, those who contribute will get their name in the acknowledgement section of the book. For more information leave a comment on this blog or email me at yursil@gmail.com and I will pass your information along to the appropriate people.

    Peace Sheila,

Not sure yet, I understand there is still a lot of work to be done!

As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Sidi Yursil,

You mentioned that this project is in need of funding. Exactly how much funding is required please? Thanks.

    Walaikumassalam KnewOnce :)

    Information from the organizers below:

    ———-
the complete project will cost us around 60k, of which we have raised 15k

so he can write us a check for the remaining 45 :-)

In all honest no amount given is too small. All income that comes for the sale of the book goes right back into more translations. We are working with Fons Vitae in also trying to bring out the complete translation of the tafseer Al Jalalayn.

But right now all concentration is on the Ihya.

salams just to let you know that DAR AL TAQWA IN LONDON WILL HAVE THE COMPLETE TAFSIR JALALYN OUT IN THE NEXT THREE WEEKS -TRANSLATED BY AISHA bewley

  6. mujahid7ia says:

This is certainly good news, but I think there may be too many duplicated translation efforts going on with Islamic literature (although I can see the value of multiple translations as well–it’s just that there are so many valuable books yet to be translated!). I know ITS is also translating the Ihya (and has many parts done), but that may be inconsistent because each part has a different translator. Also, there was an earlier low-quality translation publised by a low-quality Indian company.

But, I think this is a noble effort, and I think the translation will come out very consistent and accurate, in sha` Allah. May Allah bless the effort and those involved.

  7. Moutasem Atiya says:

    Salamu Alaikum,

Mujahid7ia you bring out a great point. The issue is that publishing houses aren’t really talking to each other, so no one knows what the other is producing. We are trying to address this issue, by having a meeting of sort at the end of the year where everyone shares what they have in the pipeline.

  8. abd al-hakim says:

Where do we send contributions to?

  9. mujahid7ia says:

Wa alaykum as salam. That’s good to hear, Moutasem. Jazak Allahu Khayr.

  10. mujahid7ia says:

What is the status on this translation, and does it still need funding?

  11. Faheem says:

The MLS website is up, please visit it. For those interested in contributing, the project is in need of funds–just click on the donation button on the homepage. If we have a steady stream of funding for this project, we hope that we will have it out on for distribution in 2010. Please show your support to translate and publish this very important text of Islamic civilization and heritage.
