salaamu alaykum mumin's
I also agree that we as muslim's do not need to rely upon the gospel of barnabas for any thing except to prove that the christian doctrine has been tampered with. the gospel they say invokes a midievel time of when it was written. Bottomline the truth is evident that ALLAH is not the author of confusion which is written in the old testament, and that the Holy Quran has never been tampered with. It remains in its purest form a witness to ALLAH. Even in translation when tried all you can get is an idea of what it really reads when read in its arabic language. i rely upon the Quran when i have been presented a hurtle you should say and that is how i feel about the gospel of barnabis. there is nothing more we should rely upon then the Quran. Growing up in a Christian background and converting to Islam i can truly tell everyone who reads this that Christianity in my belief is simply a task. a path to enlightenment and were it lead me was to Islam. Rasul-lullah (mpbuh) perfected Isa's teachings and i say shookron Allah for giving me a chance of respite. if it wasnt for the Prophet (mpbuh) and his message i would have been left at a dead end road.
i want to thank the arab people and all arab speaking cultures thank you for keeping and preserving the ethical value that many have lost in this world and i want to tell everyone that the last prophet was arab and he sealed all of our religions giving us a chance for true peace and triumph over the disbelieving people.

I do not call myself christian, nor muslim, if fact, I am not of any religion, nor any organization. I am however individually created. How can I apply any title to myself, when it is my creator that named me????

as salaamu alaykum my brothers and sisters,

i agree with you, sister umm zaid. actually we don't need the Gospel of Barnabas to prove our point about our Beloved Prophet. and i personally don't use it. but it is interesting that the objections of the christians against the gospel of barnabas' authenticity are precisely arguments which can be used against the new testament itself. the gospel of barnabas has suffered from the hands of reductionists (some of whom are probably muslim), but so did the gospels. it is just interesting to note that christians would find many faults with the gospel of barnabas, but totally ignore that the gospels they use today are also 'unreliable', as the gospel of barnabas is. And Allah knows best.

This is a great blog. and I really like the attention to Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad's Contentions. keep up the good work. may Allah shower his Infinite Rahma and Baraka upon us. Amin.

Jerald Dirks has a section in his book where he discusses the Gospel of Barnabas. He does not agree that the Gospel is dependable. He says that there is confusion among muslims about the Gospel of Barnabas and the Epistle of Barnabas.
Disclaimer: It's been a while since I have read the book and I have forgotten most of it. So <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1590080025/102-8968658-6458534?v=glance&n=283155&s=books&v=glance" rel="nofollow">read</a> it for yourself.
PS:- He also has an interesting section on the biblical characterization of Prophet Ayyub ('alayhissalaam) who he thinks is an Arab (or at least non-Jewish). But again, my memory is vague.

Salaam 'Alaikum

I personally wouldn't rely on the "Gospel of Barnabas" for anything, esp. in a conversation with a Bibleist Christian. Many consider it to be a forgery (either outright or a forgery based on an earlier, heterodox text) or in some other way not authentic and reliable.

Interesting article: Was there an early Gospel of Barnabas?

would you happen to have info on the exact name Muhammad appearing in the bible?

i think it does in a passage dealing with solomon, I remember Sheikh Ahmed Deedat mentioning that the exact word Muhammadhim appears in Hebrew in a passage, something along the lines of solomon.

The Deuteronomy verse is interpreted to be Jesus (AS)...

The Isiah verse I find no prophetic interpretations of...

The John 16 reference, they believe it to be some sort of reference to the third aspect of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit.

"...for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak." (John 16:7-14)

The Prophet (SAWS) said, "And verily, Nothing escapes these lips but Truth(Haqq-Allah's will and word)."

Whether these prophetic verses are ignored, misinterpreted, or trivialized by the Christians is unimportant. None, save the truly ignorant, can deny that there is indeed a great matter of significance which they portend: That of the coming of 'A' Prophet to guide them, the same message of One God, One Faith, One Community. Is it so unimaginable?

The Qura'n not only recognizes that Jesus(AS) was a prophet but Ruh'Allah or more aptly, Ruh-min Allah, 'The Spirit of Allah' interpreted as 'the Spirit of the Message of Allah'.

" He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.”(John 16:7-14)

Allah says in the Qur'an in Surah Hijr: "We verily sent messengers before thee among the men of the factions of Old." (15:9)

and goes on to say, "And never came unto them a messenger but they did Mock him"(15:10)

"And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me" (John 16:7-14)
Alhamulillah, it is clear for us, insh'allah.
