Dala’il al-Khayrat, the most celebrated manual of Blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) in history, was composed by the Sufi, wali, Muslim scholar of prophetic descent, and baraka of Marrakesh Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Jazuli (d. 870/1465)….
“Millions of Muslims from East to West tried it and found its good, its baraka, and its benefit for centuries and over generations, and witnessed its unbelievable spiritual blessings and light. Muslims avidly recited it, alone and in groups, in homes and mosques, utterly spending themselves in the Blessings on the Most Beloved and praising him—until Wahhabi ideas came to spread among them, suborning them and creating confused fears based on the opinions of Ibn Taymiya and the reviver of his path Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab of Najd. After this, Muslims slackened from reciting the Dala’il al-Khayrat, falling away from the Blessings upon the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) in particular, and from the remembrance of Allah in general” (al-Mutrib fi awliya’ al-Maghrib, 143–44). I live in Singapore, age 55. My parents (my beloved father returned to ALLAAH’s mercy last December)had seen the worst during the Japanese occupation of Singapore in the early forties (1942-19450). There are many older folks around who have had gone through trying times during those tumultous period. Many lives were lost, properties confiscated or destroyed during that period. The Japanese soldiers (the occupying force) would come and randomly pick up some in trucks only to be slaughtered. People were surviving on tapiocas. People were living in fear and in some areas where the Japanese forces frequent became areas of fear as no one knew who will be the next victim. It was during this period that a holy man by the name of Mohamed Hussain used to gather people to read the Dalaai’l Khayraat. Many did not know about this magnificent prayer manual and its significance. This man explained to them the meaning of every line and sought (tawassul)help and protection through the reading of this book. A miracle took place that was witnessed by several families and neighbours who lived where this book was being read daily. The Japanese started dropping bombs right near the house but the bomb did not explode and no one was injured. It continued for several days. The cause for this action of the Japanese was because of the death of a senior soldier by someone (probably a Chinese for raping and killing his young daughter). The Japanese continued to bombard the area for full week and nothing happened. Some bombs landed and exploded but there were no casualties other than damages to building structures. I later grew up in this area and was in fact born in one of the houses which is still preserved by the Monument Preservation Board by the Singapore government. And the man who read the Dalaa’il Khayraat was my great grandfather on my father’s side. He knew Arabic and wrote some books in Arabic. I still have a few in my possession. This is the awesome story - a true incident - about the power of Dalaa’il Khayraat. The atrocities of the Wahhabis against innocent people too many and too creul to recall. I am of the opinion that if only people know the true nature of these people and their evil plots, they will even be reluctant to be Muslims (na’udhbillaah). Their ‘everything shirk’ theory is mere hypocrisy and one-sided. May ALLAAH save us all.
