On quite a few sites I found this article about American Indian “Cherokee” Muslims, “Digging for Red Roots”. This is mirrored on a ton of sites. Recently I felt some doubts about it, and I felt like it is something that I should be able to independently verify. I didn’t get too far but along the way I found this ‘rebuttal’ by what apparantly seems to be a converted American Indian.

I actually found this very funny rant about the whole “Native Americans were Muslims” in one of the linked blogs on your pegasus site.

Ma sha Allah nice to have you back blogging. Perhaps you should tip UZ off about the article you linked as I’m sure she’d be interested despite its obvious “salafi” leanings.
It’s not the only time I’ve come across attempts to link Muslims with another culture displaying an obvious ignorance of one of them. I once saw a piece by one Bogdan Kopanski about Muslims in his supposed native country of Poland, in which he suggests that Bohoniki and Kruszyniany, in which there are small mosques, is near another town called Gorzow Wielkopolski. In fact, a cursory look at the map shows that the two villages with the mosques are right on the Belarusian border, while Gorzow is next to the German border, and in fact was a German town called Landsberg until World War II!
I can see that these were posted some time ago, but in Support of this article I would just like to say that I converted to Islam because of its similarity to the teachings of my people, the Suquamish. We are a Native American tribe located in the state of Washington. For years I have been trying to find a link from my original religion to Islam, as they truely are that similar, and then I stumbled upon a book containing information on Islam in early America. I hopethis was informative.

Ziya Pasha’s says that at Andulucia History. Some American Indians are Muslim at 13. century. And they knew Arabic.
